Specialist steak restaurant
We opened our doors in 2014 committed to injecting some theatre, flair, character and bloody-good local food and drink to one of the less-trodden streets in York. The goal is to provide our guests with a safe haven from the stresses of daily life, and a one-of-a-kind, end-to-end dining experience.
We’ve become synonymous with superb beef, offering our guests a fantastic variety of ever-changing cuts & breeds, but we are equally obsessed about our other seasonally inspired plates, featured on our a la carté menu, focusing on locally caught fish and unique vegetarian dishes.
The Whippet Inn, York – Restaurant & Pub
We pride ourselves on delivering a first-class service, so that everyone who visits leaves feeling entirely satisfied. And if not, then just let us know and we’ll make it right.
A place like ours is only as good as our menu. So quality is key. We source our ingredients as locally as possible — not just so that it’s fresh, but also to support the independent producers and makers in the region, and fly the White Rose of Yorkshire.
The building itself is Grade II listed and dates back to 1896. But we’ve spruced it up a bit since then — with some moody colours, kama sutric wallpaper, a menagerie of quirky trinkets and a host of local artists’ creations.

The Whippet Inn is owned by Martin Bridge and Andrew Whitney, two local businessmen with a passion for good food, good drink and good living. They also own The Stone Trough Inn in Kirkham Abbey — well worth a visit if you’re ever in the area.
